robotSeems robots aren’t just building cars on the assembly line anymore. A Japanese weather and information company has installed 500 robots to monitor allergy levels and keep the public informed in Japan.

These robots do not resemble your typical robot and they  won’t get your dinner or do the house work. They look rather like a large inflated beach ball. The balls are placed at various locations in the city and collect information on pollen levels. The balls rank pollen levels on a 1-5 scale and when pollen levels change they will change color. The robots also collect data on current weather condition.

The company hopes the robots will help the public make better choices and let them know when they should stay inside or try and limit time outdoors to avoid higher pollen levels. Many people living in Japan suffer from pollen allergy symptoms, this is due to the large number of cedar trees.

I am not sure anything like this exists in North America but if they did they would likely be red and indicating a very bad allergy season ahead. In many areas spring allergy season is just beginning and most of the east coast had a long snow filled winter which should make for a very wet spring.

Check Your Local Pollen Levels Right Now

Though we may not have allergy robots in the United States you can always check your current pollen levels by entering your zip code into our allergy index. The index gives a accurate measurement of current pollen levels and the default is set for New York city.
