A recently released British study seems to indicate that children with peanut allergies were able to reduce or eliminate peanut allergy symptoms when given a small amount of peanut flour daily. By giving children small amounts of peanut flour they were able to build up immunity to their allergies.

The study done at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge does not claim to be a cure but it raises the tolerance level to peanuts, to where many participants could safely eat 8-10 peanuts with out suffering reactions.

Researchers started with a very small amount of peanut flour, just 5 milligrams and over a 6 month period gradually increased the amount of peanut flour to 800 milligrams.

While the research is  encouraging the trial size was small with only 4 participants in the initial study and 18 added later. The children involved in the study ranged from age 7 to 17.  The results of this test are very similar to a study of children with milk allergies and powdered milk that I wrote about a few months back.
